The idea of becoming an island in a dress is a metaphor for the cultural "archipielaguismo" of the city, where geographical boundaries are replaced by the identity of different communities that communicate with each other but still maintain their own individuality. Evidencing that we exist and our marks on these personal objects are acts of reaffirmation of that existence. In this concept, the artist creates a dress that corresponds to her own personal and ethical values and, at the same time, be a means of appropriation of the landscape. Fiterre is interested in seeing what happens to the dress and the marks left by all the bodies that interact with it.

Paola Martínez Fiterre is a Cuban artist based in New York City. She has participated in multiple group shows in Havana and New York, San Francisco, Bordeaux, Geneva, and Mexico City. Her works are in the collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
