Choreographer Emma Cotter incorporates “wearable art” headdresses made from deconstructed menswear ties by her longtime collaborator Ryan Roth into roaming dance performances. Using short choreographed vignette phrase work and gentle improvisation with the surrounding environment and passers-by, the dance artists reflect on the changing history of why/what is expected or acceptable in modes of contemporary dress codes and body language, while trying to find the balance of blending/belonging with individual expression.
Emma Cotter is a NYC-based artist/choreographer who has been producing work under the name RETTOCAMME since 2003. Her work has been presented by Chashama, 92nd St Y, Solar Powered Arts Festival, Fashion District Arts Festival, Figment/Governors Island, and Jonathan Shorr Gallery, among many others, including two AiOP festivals in Orlando, FL.
