Featherman begins with a sculptural costume: steel feathers connected to chainmail, over a silver spandex suit and silver sneakers, topped by steel feather covered helmet. Artist Alex Bard is inside all this, roaming 14th Street, engaging with passersby, inviting them to photograph, film and inspiring their own imaginations to take flight.
As life itself is a co-collaboration, Featherman and the responses to him create a narrative as it is happening, and afterwards as well, as all the captured images are woven together and documented in a collective memory and visual poem.
Alex Bard is a U.S. based interdisciplinary artist whose work includes sculpture, sculptural costumes, photo compositions and video, inspired by anthropology, mythology, world religions, and psychology. Bard uses archetypal images to reflect facets and levels of human consciousness, encouraging self-awareness and reflection, empowering viewers.
